Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Politics — Yuck!

Q.
I don’t like politics, so why would I want to do this?
A.
If, like most of us, you don’t like politics but you LOVE animals, we make it easy for you. We’ll take care of the politics—of pressuring and working with legislators to pass legislation to protect animals. All you have to do is to vote your conscience. We’ll tell you about those legislators who have agreed to work with us to make Florida a better place for animals.

Action for Animals

Q.
How will I know what legislation you are working on and what legislators you are supporting?
A.
These are listed under the Legislation menu above, both State Bills and Local Bills are displayed. On occasion, we will send you our Animals Florida E-News Update to let you know what animal-related legislation is pending in your area and what legislators have agreed to work with us to protect animals.

Contacting LOHV-FL

Q.
How do I contact you?
A.
Just fill out the Contact form in the Contact Us link above right, write to us from our Facebook site or email us at lohvflcontact@gmail.com.

Cost

Q.
How much money is being part of LOHV-FL going to cost me?
A.
None! LOHV is a volunteer organization. There are no membership fees or dues. If you do want to make a donation to help cover our brochures, business cards, fees for tabling events, printing costs, and other miscellaneous operating fees, go to our Home Page and click on the Donate button. It's that easy.

Party Affiliation

Q.
Which party does LOHV-FL represent?
A.
We don’t represent ANY political party. We are non-partisan. We are not affiliated with any political party whatsoever. We do not represent Republicans. We do not represent Democrats. We represent animals and those who love them.

Political Action Committees

Q.
LOHV-FL is a political action committee. What is that?
A.
A political action committee, or PAC, is not a charity, and donations to it are not tax deductible. Unlike a charity, a PAC is able to lobby for specific candidates and legislation. That means that, unlike a charity, we can work to elect representatives and to pass legislation that protect animals.

Time Commitment

Q.
I’m busy. How much time will I need to devote to this organization?
A.
Hardly any! We make it simple. You need only do three things that take very little time:
  1. Register to vote. This takes only a few minutes. We have instructions on our website, or you can visit the Florida Division of Elections website. Print out an application, fill it in, and mail it to your County Supervisor of Elections (the addresses are on the application).
  2. Vote for the candidates we endorse. That means simply going to the polls at election time as you would ordinarily do.
  3. If animal legislation is on the table in your county, we may ask you to email your commissioner. Doing this is ENTIRELY up to you. When we think that it’s worthwhile for you to email your commissioner, we will email you a form letter to send off.

Use of Donations

Q.
What does LOHV-FL do with its donations? Does money given to LOHV-FL go into administrators’ pockets?
A.
Absolutely not. LOHV-FL is a volunteer organization with no administrator salaries. One hundred percent of donations to LOHV-FL go to our work—paying for equipment, printing, website fees, fees for tabling at events, occasional administrative support, our email newsletter, and other actions that directly support our work on behalf of animals.

Volunteering

Q.
I would love to get more involved. How do I volunteer to help animals?
A.
We have a constant need for volunteers to help table at local events and for many other tasks. Just go to the Volunteer for LOHV-FL page and let us know that you are interested in helping out and what you would like to do. Then, you can come out and sit with us at one or more tabling events in your area and help us gather names of other voters and animal lovers like you or we will train you to do other tasks. Volunteering with LOHV-FL is a simple, easy, no-cost, and fun way to make a difference for animals and to get to know other animal lovers in your area.
